Backcountry ski tours

Join us for one week of “exotic” skiing at Pindos mountains of North west Greece! A virgin area where only a few descents have been made! The backcountry ski tours take place around the area of Zagori, Mt. Timfi, Mt. Smolikas and Mt. Vasilitsa. It is a tour which combines the culture and the nature of the area, but also gives fantastic runs, guaranteed first tracks, and relative easy access! The mountains of Pindos are smooth and the snow guaranteed, a tour for every ski tourer!!

1st Day. We Drive to Mt. Grammos one of the highest Greek Mountains at the borders with Albania

Mt Grammos is a paradise for backcountry lovers, has extended slopes and big open bowls, a pleasure for any skier. Our bus will take us to the small mountain settlement Grammosta at 1440m altitude. Overnight at Grammos Lodge.

2nd Day, depending on weather conditions, skin up the highest peak Grammos at 2520 and descent back to the lodge

3rd Day, crossing to Aetomilitsa via Kiafa peak at 2393m and drive to our next station Mt. Timfi and the village Papigo.

4th Day The ascent begins from the village of Papigo towards the Astraka refuge, we start to skin usually at 1400m, and until there (1.30 walk) our skis can be tranfered by horse! At the refuge we make a small break, and leave some things we don’t need. After a small descent we continue to climb Ploskos peak and enjoy a smooth descent until the valley below the refuge. After a small ascent we reach the refuge, where we overnight.

After the climb we ski down all the way to Papigo, where our bus waits for us to transfer the group to Pades, where we overnight.

6th day Mt Smolikas is the second highest mountain of Greece, and with its 2637m makes it a ski paradise! We start from the village, with a small bus transfer until we find snow and the possibility to skin up! The goal is the peak, and the slopes around it. Amazing views as we climb, towards Timfi, and the Albanian border. The skiing is great downhilling into a valley, we skin up for about an hour and another beautiful tree run is ahead of us! Return to Pades and drive to Distrato where we overnight.
